Drone startup Garuda Aerospace has named cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni as its brand ambassador, the firm announced on June 6. He will also be a shareholder in the company.
Garuda Aerospace, based in Chennai, recently announced plans to boost agriculture. In April, the business announced that it was developing a strategy for selling drones to village entrepreneurs or pesticide and fertiliser sellers.
MS Dhoni has also dabbled in farming on his own. He runs a farm near Ranchi where he grows organic fruits and vegetables.
The cricketer expressed his delight at joining Garuda Aerospace. In a press release, he said, "(I) look forward to witnessing their growth story with the unique drone solutions they have to offer."
Agnishwar Jayaprakash, the CEO of Garuda Aerospace, claimed he was a big fan of Dhoni.
"Having him join the Garuda Aerospace family is truly a dream come true," Jayaprakash added. "Mahi Bhai is the essence of commitment, and I am confident that having Captain Cool on our Cap table would add significant value to our team and motivate them to achieve better."
Garuda Aerospace operates in 26 cities with 300 drones and 500 pilots. According to Jayaprakash, the company is on its path to becoming India's first-ever drone unicorn startup.
Garuda Aerospace is one of four drone firms chosen by Swiggy, an online food delivery business, for a pilot project including supply runs for its Instamart grocery service.
Swiggy had stated in April that "(the companies) will replace inventories between seller-run dark stores and from a store to a common customer point." "Orders will be picked up at the common point and delivered to a customer's doorstep by a delivery partner."
