Tuesday saw the Goa tourism agency make the announcement that a Jetty Policy 2022 would be created to make the most of the coastal state waters.
Nikhil Desai, the state's director of tourism, requested comments and criticisms for the policy's drafting in a public notice.
The notice stated that the state's 104 km of expansive coastline and 255 km of inland waterways are now used for material movement and public transit. The policy calls for the construction of appropriate infrastructure, including jetties, floating pontoons, jetty terminal buildings, and other ancillary tourist facilities, in order to balance the interests of stakeholders and visitors and to ensure the efficient, expert, and secure operation of cruise tourism operations.
"In order to harness the full potential of the Goan waters for tourism purpose, the state government desires to implement a jetty policy for regulating the introduction and operation of any passenger cruise vessel or operators using any jetty that is existing or upcoming jetties proposed by any government department in Goa to be used for tourism purpose," it said.
