Today's (August 23) cryptocurrency prices: Bitcoin, Ethereum trade in the red; Polkadot is the biggest loser

Early on August 23, major cryptocurrencies experienced negative trading. The market capitalization of all cryptocurrencies was $1.03 trillion, up 0.01 percent from the previous day.

Over the past 24 hours, the total volume traded on the cryptocurrency market increased by 19.05 percent to $70.74 billion.

DeFi's 24-hour volume was $5.43 billion, or 7.67%, of the total volume of the cryptocurrency market. All stablecoin volume is currently $63.92 billion, or 90.37 percent of the 24-hour volume of the whole crypto market.

Bitcoin was trading around Rs. 17.80 lakh. According to CoinMarketCap, Bitcoin's market share is at 39.84 percent, down 0.25 percent from the previous day.

In other events, Australia announced on Monday that it will take a virtual inventory of its cryptocurrency holdings. This announcement was the country's first indication that the new centre-left administration intended to regulate the $1 trillion industry.

The first stage in determining which bitcoin assets to regulate and how will be to classify the different types and applications of digital money possessed in the nation, according to Treasurer Jim Chalmers.

He continued in a statement, "Australia would be the first nation in the world to execute such an experiment."
