Kia India announced on Wednesday that its May sales surged by 69% year on year to 18,718 units. In May 2021, the business delivered 11,050 units to dealers as part of the second wave of COVID-19.

According to Kia India, the Sonet contributed the most to overall sales with 7,899 units, followed by Seltos (5,953 units), Carens (4,612 units), and Carnival (239 units). Last month, the business also sent 15 EV6 units to dealerships as demonstration cars, according to the company.

With the steady recovery of the semiconductor shortage, the company reported that sales in the first five months of 2022 totaled 97,796 units. The automaker also exceeded the domestic sales milestone of 4.5 lakh units in May 2022, while the Sonet surpassed the 1.5 lakh sales mark since its launch, it added.

"With yet another outstanding sales performance, we are pleased to maintain our sales momentum. Even though the entire auto sector is plagued by supply chain challenges, we are expanding at a pace of 19% or more, which is greater than the industry average growth rate "Hardeep Singh Brar, Kia India's VP and Head of Sales and Marketing, noted.

Kia India announced on June 2 that its completely electric vehicle, the EV6, will be launched in the nation as part of the company's commitment to offering sustainable transportation options.

On May 26, 2022, the carmaker began taking reservations for the EV6 through a restricted number of dealerships across India.
