On October 1, PM Narendra Modi will introduce 5G services in India
In his Independence Day speech, Prime Minister Modi discussed 5G, claiming that the service would soon launch in India and deliver speeds that were ten times faster.
On October 1, at the India Mobile Congress in Pragati Maidan, the nation's 5G services will be launched by the country's prime minister, Narendra Modi.
"Taking India's digital transformation & connectivity to new heights, Hon'ble PM, @narendramodi, will roll out 5G services in India; at India Mobile Congress; Asia's largest technology exhibition," the National Broadband Mission, which is housed under the Ministry of Communications, wrote in a tweet.
Later, it was revealed on the India Mobile Congress' official website that PM Modi would inaugurate the gathering and introduce 5G services.
Also appearing on stage with PM Modi would be the chairman of Reliance Industries, Mukesh Ambani, Sunil Mittal of Bharti Airtel, and Ravinder Takkar of Vodafone Idea India, according to government insiders who spoke to Moneycontrol. Ashwini Vaishnaw, the minister for electronics and information technology, Nirmala Sitharaman, the minister for finance, and Dharmendra Pradhan, the minister for education, among others, will all be in attendance.
The authorities further stated that Reliance Jio, Airtel, and Vi would begin rolling out 5G services in seven locations, including Delhi and Mumbai.
The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and Cellular Operators Association of India are jointly organising the October 1–4 India Mobile Congress (IMC), which bills itself as the largest telecom, media, and technology gathering in Asia (COAI). In-depth discussions at IMC 2022 will centre on "the trajectory of current technology and what it means for businesses and individuals for the future."
In August, DoT received bids from the 5G spectrum auction totaling Rs. 1.50 lakh crore. The four main players in the spectrum sale were Reliance Jio, Adani Group, Bharti Airtel, and Vodafone Idea.
Earlier, Ashwini Vaishnaw, the minister of electronics and information technology, had said that India is preparing for the launch of 5G services by October. Additionally, he had stated that after 5G services were launched, they would be expanded and should eventually cover the entire nation within the following two to three years.
In his Independence Day speech, PM Modi discussed 5G, claiming that the service would soon launch in India and offer 10 times better speeds. He added that optical fibre would soon be available in Indian villages, and the internet would soon spread to the farthest reaches of the nation.
The general norm for 5G speed is 100 Mbps, while actual speeds may differ. There is general agreement that 4G speeds fall between 60 and 70 Mbps.
In addition to enabling high-speed data, 5G has the potential to support a number of enterprise-level applications, including more immersive augmented reality and metaverse experiences, linked vehicles, and machine-to-machine interactions.
