According to the Knight Frank India study, "Data Centre Q3 2022," Hyderabad, Chennai, and New Delhi have become the top data centre markets in the Asia-Pacific region.
In Q3 2022, these regions will have a combined operating live capacity of more than 100 megawatts (MW).
According to the research, almost 189 MW of data centre capacity is already under construction, which will soon virtually triple the live capacity. The report also stated that over 800 MW of the 1.25 GW (GW) of planned (committed and early-stage) IT power has already been committed.
Nearly two-thirds of the current capacities have been added in just the last two years, according to Shishir Baijal, Chairman and Managing Director at Knight Frank India. Cities like Hyderabad, New Delhi, and Chennai are also experiencing significant growth in the data centre market.
The article stated, "The combined IT power in the cities of Hyderabad, New Delhi, and Chennai is close to 1,100 MW. Currently in the planning stages, an additional 453 MW of IT power is anticipated for the three Indian markets combined."
Nearly two-thirds of this supply have been added over the previous few years, effectively tripling the anticipated market capacity during this time, it added.
As of Q3 2022, Chennai has the highest live capacity (41.4 MW), followed by Hyderabad (33.7 MW) and New Delhi (32.6 MW) in terms of planned (committed and early-stage), under-construction, and live data centre capacity.
Although New Delhi's under-construction IT supply of 84 MW would nearly quadruple its live capacity to 117 MW, the report stated that Chennai's current live capacity was highest. It was concluded that a pipeline of 416 MW and 352 MW respectively was planned for Delhi and Chennai.
