A seed round headed by Anicut Capital, Rocketship VC, and Speciale Invest garnered an unknown amount of money for Bengaluru-based Uravu Labs, a deep-tech business that produces water out of air sustainably.
According to a press release from the business, their system employs renewable energy and atmospheric moisture to make drinking water. According to the business, by 2023, its technology would be commercially available and have applications in the hospitality, real estate, and beverage industries.
In order to support its growth and commercialization over the next two years, Uravu Labs, which was founded in 2019 by Pardeep Garg, Swapnil Shrivastav, Venkatesh R, and Govinda Balaji, plans to expand its staff in R&D, engineering, marketing, and business development areas.
Although the idea of creating water from the air is not new, Uravu Labs asserts to have developed a sustainable energy-based technique. Uravu Labs claims that conventionally, a sizable quantity of electricity is required to extract water from air, and that this electricity is not necessarily produced from clean, renewable sources.
The desiccant-based framework of Uravu Labs' technology is used. A desiccant is a material that draws out water from objects.
The company used this technology to create drinking water devices, and it has a wide range of applications in mind.
According to the company, smaller machines with daily capacities of 20 to 100 litres can be used in office buildings, apartment complexes, and community spaces in both urban and rural areas.
The beverage industry may use larger equipment with daily capacities greater than 10,000 litres, it was claimed.
The business claimed that it has AB InBev and Radico Khaitan as clients in the beverage industry and is actively courting a large number of other beverage and business clients in the Indian, Southeast Asian, Middle Eastern, and Japanese sectors.
With the money, the company also intends to reach remote, drought-stricken areas of Africa and India by the end of next year by collaborating with CSR and government partners.
Pardeep Garg, CEO and co-founder of Uravu Labs, commented on the announcement: "The seed investment will help Uravu to expedite its ongoing work of minimising the impact on groundwater."
"By using exclusively renewable energy, it will also allow us to reduce resource depletion by turning readily available air into water. The company wants to quickly test and grow the solution with important customers and has already launched field pilots, according to Garg.
Sailesh Ramakrishnan, Partner, Rocketship.vc, said, "The idea of 100% renewable water is revolutionary and we were excited by the progress that the team has made.
The climate technology business raised an unknown sum earlier in 2021 during a pre-seed funding round that was led by Speciale Invest. Angel investors like Peter Yolles (Echo River Capital), Soren Schroder, Shigeru Sumimoto (Conselux Corporation), and Tomoki Kaneko were among the additional investors (Kaneko Cord).
