The parent company of Facebook, Meta, has announced that, as of December 1st, it will begin eliminating four information fields from user profiles.
From the beginning of the following month, Facebook profiles won't include addresses, political opinions, religious beliefs, or the "interested in" field, which discloses a user's sexual orientation.
The message that is being given to Facebook users who have the aforementioned data on their accounts was first published on Twitter by Matt Navarra, who also shared a screenshot of the changes.
In an email to TechCrunch, a Facebook representative said, "As part of our efforts to make Facebook easier to discover and use, we're deleting a handful of profile fields: Interested In, Religious Views, Political Views, and Address."
People who have filled out these fields will receive notices from us informing them that they will be deleted. Anyone's capacity to post personal information about themselves elsewhere on Facebook is unaffected by this change.
A total of 11,000 people, or 13% of the workforce, were let go by Meta earlier this month. Ajit Mohan, the managing director of Meta India, left the company shortly after, joining Snap Inc. after a four-year tenure
Sandhya Devanathan was appointed Vice President of Meta India on November 17. Devanathan, who now oversees the business' gaming division in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region, will start in her new position on January 1 and relocate back to India to take charge of the organization's strategy.
According to the business, Devanathan will be a member of the APAC leadership team and will answer to Dan Neary, Vice President, Meta APAC. While other predecessors of hers reported to the Asia Pacific office of the social networking company, Mohan reported directly to the Menlo Park headquarters of Meta. The organisation is under the interim management of Manish Chopra, Director and Head of Partnerships for Facebook India (Meta).
Along with Mohan, Rajiv Aggarwal, director of public policy at Meta India, and Abhijit Bose, head of WhatsApp India, are also departing the organisation. The head of public policy for Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp in India, Shivnath Thukral, has been promoted to director of public policy for Meta India.
