Elon Musk, Twitter's new owner, has also suggested that the blue tick will cost money in response to rumours that the microblogging site may charge verified users to retain their much sought-after checkmark.
Many individuals appeared to be offended by the plan, including author Stephen King. King expressed his unhappiness via Twitter, and in response, Twitter's billionaire maverick owner revealed the company planned to charge for the tick.
On October 31, King declared through Twitter that if the proposal went into effect, he would stop using the service and that Twitter should pay him instead.
In his reply to King's tweet, Musk argued that the business couldn't rely exclusively on advertising and questioned if King would be willing to pay $8 for the service.
King wrote, "Musk can f*** off with his proposal of charging blue-tickers," in agreement with comedian Kathy Burke. This terrible site gets all I have for nothing. He should be paying ME, you cheeky b****. The poxy stuff is unnecessary regardless.
The CEO of Twitter declared that this is the sole strategy for thwarting bots and that he will explain the justification in great detail before putting the policy into effect.
According to a story published by The Verge last week, Twitter's $44 billion takeover by Musk will cost verified users $20 each month in order to maintain their blue checkmark.
Musk tweeted on October 30: "The complete verification procedure is being overhauled right now," without making any comments about the allegations.
For a monthly price, Twitter Blue, the platform's first subscription service, offers "exclusive access to premium features," such as the capacity to edit tweets. Twitter Blue was launched in June of last year.
